Peace Walker Society
Thank you for your interest in the Peace Walker Society. We are a small group of peace makers funded exclusively by our members and supporters — no corporate sponsors, no advertising, no hidden agendas.
The Peace Walker Society began in 2002, on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada. Looking at organizing a peacewalk in Israel, I gathered friends together for a brainstorming session. Present were Alan Woodland, Hila Russ, Naya Kee and Amy Phillips and my wife Lin. Alan, being an accountant, peppered me with questions about the financial arrangements and logistics of the walk. In frustration, I explained to him that I really had no concrete plans. "You know, I also have another pilgrimage in Spain coming up, and that's not arranged yet either."
With a generous smile, Alan said, "Derek, I think you need help." I nodded, somewhat bewildered. "The first thing we need to do is form a committee - or even a nonprofit group to support you," he continued. Within five minutes of rapid conversation, the Peace Walker Society was birthed.
One of the key directors on our board is Zachariah Crow, who has contributed countless hours to creating and maintaining our website. His efforts have enabled us to reach out to the global community and meet others who care about our world.
The Peace Walker Society has enabled me, and others, to arrange and participate in numerous walks, workshops, slide shows and art exhibitions.
I am available, with Carolyn Affleck, to give talks and workshops on peace and pilgrimage, and to help organize walks. Please feel free to contact us.
